The search for the real cause for the French Bee Syndrome has finally begun

Press release Bayer - http://www.agro.bayer.com

The French Minister of Agriculture, Jean Glavany, has extended the temporary suspension of the crop protection product Gaucho® for the use as a seed treatment in sunflowers. Bayer regrets this decision as a lot of studies conducted by independent research institutes and Bayer during the last two years have shown clearly that there is no causal relationship between Gaucho and the French bee syndrome. Despite the suspension of Gaucho over this long period of time the depopulation of the beehives has continued. In order to investigate the real cause of the depopulation of the beehives the Minister of Agriculture will establish a French scientific committee. Bayer has always called for broad studies covering all possible factors of this complex problem and welcomes Mr. Glavany's plan. Factors which might be responsible for the French Bee Syndrome such as bee diseases, parasites, varroa mites, bee strains or extreme climatic conditions should be covered in these studies. Bayer is offering its expertise and support in designing these studies.
